The ratio of the number of red balls to the number of yellow balls in a bag is 3 : 4. If there are 16 yellow balls in the bag, how many red balls are there in the bag?

×13 — your child’s answer

✓12 — correct

Why: 16 yellow balls are 4 parts, so one part is 16 ÷ 4 = 4. Red is 3 parts: 3 × 4 = 12. The common slip is taking 3 from 16 instead of finding one part first.
